Headline News - Children and Fear

In light of the horrific reality of school shootings, what should our children know? We believe they should know very little about the atrocities and very little about the particulars. The details of school shootings are not going to help them at all.

What will help?

1. Continued practice at school for active shooters.

2. Reassurance that parents, school personal and police officers are taking measure to keep them safe.

Above all else, keeping the details of the danger of school shootings from them is protecting them from themselves. We must remember that a child’s imagination and his/her self-centered nature are going to create a mental image of what we don’t want…… fear. Nothing good can come from creating fear about this situation for a child.
